Done deal: Pompey pathway for Bournemouth loan emerges as ‘£40.2m’ deal agreed

Pompey is exploring the possibility of securing a loan move for Bournemouth striker Daniel Jebbison. Recent reports from HITC suggest that the Blues are among several Championship teams interested in the 21-year-old forward, who joined Bournemouth from Sheffield United just last month.

Portsmouth pathway emerges for potential Bournemouth loan after '£40.2m' deal agreed

Pompey head coach John Mousinho indicated that loan moves for young Premier League players like Jebbison might need to be postponed until the later stages of the transfer window, as top-flight clubs carefully evaluate their options before the deadline on August 30.

Bournemouth’s recent £65m sale of Dominic Solanke to Spurs has heightened their awareness of needing depth in their attack, especially with the Premier League season beginning with a match against Nottingham Forest, followed by a home game against Newcastle.

However, Bournemouth’s concerns over losing Solanke were alleviated somewhat after they agreed on a £40.2m deal for FC Porto and Brazil striker Evanilson, who scored 25 goals in 42 appearances for the Portuguese side last season. Evanilson is expected to arrive at Bournemouth to complete his medical ahead of what will be a record-breaking transfer for the club.

If Evanilson joins in time, it could ease Jebbison’s potential loan move from Bournemouth and possibly expedite the process. Bournemouth is reportedly keen to loan Jebbison to a Championship team to aid his development with regular playtime.

Although Jebbison was signed as a free agent last month, Bournemouth had to pay £1.5m in training compensation to Sheffield United. Along with Pompey, other Championship clubs such as Leeds, Norwich, West Brom, Stoke, Hull, and Derby are also monitoring Jebbison’s situation.

When asked about Jebbison, Mousinho mentioned that with the recent transfer activity being slow, particularly due to the Euros and the overall lack of movement at the top level, Premier League clubs might delay decisions on loaning out their young players. Consequently, many young players may only be moved towards the end of the window.

Pompey has already signed Elia Sorensen to enhance their attacking options, but with Colby Bishop out indefinitely after heart surgery, they are likely to seek additional forward depth.
