This weekend, the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua, accompanied perhaps for the final time by coach Mick Byrne, will set sail for Auckland. After this Shop N Save Super Rugby Pacific season, Byrne will begin his role as coach of the Flying Fijians coaching staff. Meli Derenalagi, the captain of the Drua, praises Byrne for his three seasons of service and everything that he has done for the squad. Derenalagi claims that having Byrne mentor them and show them the ropes as a professional player has been an honor and a privilege. The gold medallist from the Olympics gave the Drua coach his word that they would value his advice.
As we often say, “You may leave the Drua, but the Drua is your home. Feel free to visit whenever you’re in the area; the doors are always open for you to come see the boys who have matured into men and pursue their dreams.” On Saturday at 7:05 p.m., Our Drua takes on the Blues in the Super Rugby quarterfinal. The game is available to watch live on FBC Sports.
