The English football star has already participated in the delayed Euro 2020, where England lost the final to Italy on penalties, the 2022 World Cup, and now Euro 2024.
However, what may not be widely known are his unexpected connections to Southend. This week, it was revealed that Jude watched his father Mark, a midfielder, who excelled while playing for Catholic United in Southend.
During the Euro 2020 tournament, it was also disclosed that two of Jude Bellingham’s earliest visits to Wembley were to watch Southend United. Jude’s father Mark is a dedicated supporter of the Shrimpers and took his son to witness Phil Brown’s team in the 2013 JPT Trophy final and their League Two play-off final victory against Wycombe Wanderers two years later.
Additionally, Jude attended the LDV Vans Trophy finals against Blackpool and Wrexham in Cardiff, as well as the League Two final triumph against Lincoln City in 2005.
Mark, who grew up in Essex, played for Catholic and East Thurrock United during his football career, scoring over 700 goals. Despite relocating to the West Midlands, where he now serves as a sergeant in the police force, he continues to passionately support Southend.
Jude initially made a name for himself at Birmingham City before transferring to Borussia Dortmund in 2020 and subsequently joining Real Madrid. His impressive performances have earned him two senior caps for England, and at just 17 years old, he was the youngest member of Gareth Southgate’s squad for the previous Euros, contributing to England’s journey to the final.
