English non-league side ‘hold talks’ with Rangers over pre-season friendly – with club’s schedule to be confirmed

The Ibrox team has not yet announced its preseason schedule for when the 2023–2024 season ends.

Rangers representatives are said to have discussed a preseason friendly in mid-July with Southend United of the Vanarama National League.

The prospective fixture date for the Shrimpers’ warm-up game against the Light Blues B-team has not yet been confirmed, according to Echosport.

It is anticipated that the match will take place in Scotland, as Gers director George Taylor is a member of a group attempting to acquire the Roots Hall club, which may serve as the team’s summer connection.

With “additional matches in the schedule to come,” Southend has already confirmed four friendlies: Great Wakering Rovers on July 13, Caney Island on July 16, Gillingham on July 27, and Chelmsford City on August 3.

The only scheduled glamour friendly for Rangers’ first team is against Premier League giants Manchester United at Murrayfield Stadium. There have been strong rumours of a possible matchup at St Andrews against recently relegated EFL Championship outfit Birmingham City, but neither club has officially confirmed the fixture.

It’s believed that the Glasgow giants won’t be able to play any home friendly this summer due to major construction being done on the Copland Road section of Ibrox Stadium.
