Marc Guehi recently commented on Newcastle United while away with England at the Euros.

The Crystal Palace defender was one of England’s standout players in their 1-0 victory over Serbia on Sunday and is expected to maintain his position at center-back alongside John Stones against Denmark on Thursday. Kieran Trippier from Newcastle United will also be in the defense, likely starting at left-back again due to Luke Shaw’s absence.

There was significant concern about Marc Guehi heading into the tournament, with worries that England might be vulnerable at center-back without Harry Maguire. However, Guehi dispelled those fears with an excellent performance in England’s opener.

Marc Guehi Linked with Newcastle United Move
His impressive display is why he is highly rated and why many Premier League clubs are interested in signing him.

Newcastle United is one such club, showing interest in Guehi despite recently securing a deal for Lloyd Kelly.

### What Guehi Said About St James’ Park

Despite initial concerns, Marc Guehi has excited Newcastle United fans by mentioning the club in an interview on England’s official Instagram account.

The 23-year-old was speaking to Josh Denzel, who was asking questions submitted by fans. One fan asked, “What is the best ground you have ever played in?” The host advised Guehi to exclude Selhurst Park, the home of Crystal Palace.

“I’d say in the Prem, probably Newcastle, St James’ Park,” Guehi responded.

“It’s just really, really loud in there. The fans make it really difficult when we go there, so probably St James’ Park.”

### Newcastle Unlikely to Spend Big on Marc Guehi

Amid rumors of Newcastle’s interest, it’s thrilling to hear Marc Guehi speak so positively about St James’ Park. He appreciates the atmosphere in the North East, which he could experience more often if he joined the Magpies.

However, such a deal would be surprising. HITC Football insider Graeme Bailey, speaking to Geordie Boot Boys, shares this view.

“I don’t think Newcastle are going to spend £60 million on a centre-back this summer,” he said.

### Newcastle Unlikely to Spend Big on Marc Guehi

“Marc Guehi is clearly someone they like, but I can’t see them paying that much for another centre-back now that Lloyd Kelly is through the door,” said HITC Football insider Graeme Bailey, speaking to Geordie Boot Boys.

“He would be perfect for a lot of teams, and Newcastle are one of them, but I do not see it happening.”

Finances are the issue. While Newcastle has money to spend, most of their budget is likely earmarked for a right winger. One target is Guehi’s Palace teammate Michael Olise, who will cost around £60 million.

If Newcastle spends that amount on a winger, it’s hard to see them having the funds to then invest similarly in a centre-back. Given Palace’s desire to keep Guehi, his transfer fee will likely be around the same amount. Additionally, his value could rise if he continues to impress at Euro 2024.

### The Magpies Eye Another Centre-Back

Newcastle wants another centre-back, and Marc Guehi would be an ideal fit, but only if the budget allows. It would be surprising if Newcastle had enough funds to secure him.

### Anthony Gordon Wants Guehi at Newcastle

This situation will disappoint Toon winger Anthony Gordon, who expressed his desire for Guehi to join during an interview with TalkSPORT.

“I haven’t actually seen the Newcastle links, but it goes without saying I’d absolutely love him to come because he’s a top player and he’d make us a better team,” Gordon said.
