Premier League team West Ham United is interested in Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna as rumors about David Moyes’ future grow, according to TEAMtalk.
Under the 37-year-old’s leadership, the Suffolk-based team is actively pursuing back-to-back promotions. After Leeds United’s exciting 4-3 victory over Middlesbrough last night, they are currently in third place in the Championship. The Tractor Boys do, however, have a game in hand.
A number of Premier League teams, including West Ham, the winners of the Europa Conference League, have taken notice of the former Manchester United coach as a result of his accomplishments. The Hammers dropped to seventh place in the rankings after losing 5-2 at Crystal Palace over the weekend. As a result, Moyes is under increasing pressure because his contract expires at the end of the current campaign.
There is rumored to be a shortlist already in place, which reportedly includes current Sporting Lisbon manager Ruben Amorim, a target for Liverpool.
Another enticing possibility is McKenna. He would provide Moyes with an entirely different playing style, with Ipswich being renowned for their attacking ability. Only Southampton has scored as many goals as his club in 43 league games this season. The Northern Irishman is under contract at Portman Road until 2027, so any move for the Londoners would probably be expensive.
West Ham is eager to wrap up the campaign and focus on the future. Their final four games are against relegation-threatened Luton Town, Liverpool, Chelsea, and Manchester City, all of whom have not been kind to them. The season ends in May.
On the other hand, Ipswich will begin a season-defining week on Saturday. They first travel to the MKM Stadium to play Hull City, and then they go to Coventry City, the FA Cup semi-finalists. On the last day at Portman Road, they should be able to secure three points against a faltering Huddersfield Town team if they can survive that.
Given his success at Ipswich Town over the previous two seasons, it is inevitable that Kieran McKenna will get a chance to play in the Premier League. The Tractor Boys, though, will be hoping it works in their favor. Despite their three-game losing streak, nine points from their remaining games would guarantee them a spot in the top division.
The 37-year-old is reluctant to leave Portman Road and is hesitant to go from Suffolk to the city. It’s a challenging job at West Ham, and Moyes will be challenging to follow. Despite dividing the fan base, the Scot has had a good tenure—he won a significant title the previous season, for example.
