European Champions Set Their Sights on Ipswich Town Man

According to TEAMtalk, Premier League club West Ham United is interested in Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna while David Moyes’ future remains uncertain.

Under the 37-year-old’s leadership, the Suffolk club is on a mission to win back-to-back promotions. They are presently in third place in the Championship after Leeds United’s stunning 4-3 triumph against Middlesbrough last night. However, the Tractor Boys do have a game on hand.

These achievements have put the former Manchester United coach on the radar of several Premier League clubs, including Europa Conference League champions West Ham. The Hammers lost 5-2 against Crystal Palace over the weekend, dropping to seventh place in the league. As a result, pressure is building on Moyes, whose contract expires at the conclusion of the season.

A shortlist has already been compiled, which is thought to include Liverpool target and current Sporting Lisbon manager Ruben Amorim.

McKenna is also regarded as an appealing choice. He would bring a completely new playing style to Moyes, as Ipswich are well-known for their attacking brilliance. This season, his side has scored 85 goals in 43 league games, matching only Southampton’s record. Any transfer for the Londoners would most certainly be pricey, as the Northern Irishman is under contract at Portman Road until 2027.

West Ham will want to finish the season and focus on the future. Their remaining four matchups have not been kind, with games against Liverpool, Chelsea, and Manchester City, as well as relegation-threatened Luton Town, coming up before the season ends in May.

Ipswich, on the other hand, is entering a season-defining week that begins on Saturday. They will face Hull City at the MKM Stadium, followed by a visit to FA Cup semi-finalists, Coventry City. If they can get past that, they will be certain of three points against struggling Huddersfield Town on the last day at Portman Road.

Kieran McKenna’s performances at Ipswich Town over the last several seasons appear to have earned him a place in the Premier League. However, the Tractor Boys will be hoping that is the case. Despite being winless in three games, nine points from their remaining fixtures would guarantee them a position in the top flight.

The 37-year-old will be in no hurry to leave Portman Road and will be leery of leaving Suffolk for the city. West Ham is a difficult job, and Moyes will be a difficult man to replace. Although the Scot has split the crowd, there is no disputing that his time has been successful, since he brought a big prize last season.
