Former Wolves, Reading and Millwall star made free agent at 31
After being released by League One team Bolton Wanderers this summer, former Millwall and Wolves striker Jon Dadi Bodvarsson became a free agent. While he searches for a new team, the 31-year-old is currently available on a free transfer.

Bodvarsson was in and out of the starting lineup as Bolton advanced to the third-tier play-offs, despite his meagre four goals in 36 League One games this season. The striker was left off of the starting lineup for both the Wembley Stadium final against Oxford United and the semi-final matchup with Barnsley.

Bolton confirmed the news in a statement on Wednesday morning, saying, “Forwards Jon Dadi Bodvarsson and Cameron Jerome will leave Wanderers when their contracts with the club expire next month.” Bodvarsson was released along with fellow striker Cameron Jerome.

“Everyone at Wanderers extends their gratitude and best wishes to the couple, who left the Toughsheet Community Stadium having made a very significant contribution.

“Iceland international Bodvarsson, 31, joined the Whites from Millwall in January, 2022 and scored 25 times for Ian Evatt’s side to help secure a top-10 place in League One in his first season and then two play-off finishes and a place in the 2023 EFL Trophy final.”

Neil Harris brought the striker to Millwall in 2019.

Bodvarsson had 76 appearances for Millwall between 2019 and 2022, making him a familiar face to the team’s supporters. The youngster, who signed a £750,000 contract to work under Neil Harris at The Den from Reading, scored seven goals in that period.

The Icelandic international remarked upon arriving at the club: “I’ve known for a while now that Millwall is interested in me. I’m really thrilled that everything has been decided upon at last, and I can’t wait to get started, meet with the guys, and get the job done.

“I like to think of myself as a hard-working, honest player who prefers to operate as a team rather than as an individual. I enjoy leading the squad in goals scored and putting in a lot of work to move us up the table.

“Neil had a significant role in the relocation; he had a long-standing interest in me. Before I signed here, I spoke with him, and I loved his ideas and expectations for the team as a whole, including me.”
