Ally McCoist clarified on talkSPORT that he was specifically talking about Celtic’s poor record in Germany when some Rangers fans mistakenly thought he had overlooked their famous win over Borussia Dortmund. In the discussion, McCoist mentioned that Celtic have never won on German soil, having lost nine of their last 11 trips. This was during a segment about Celtic’s chances in their upcoming Champions League clash with Dortmund, where McCoist acknowledged that Brendan Rodgers’ side had a chance despite their tough history in Germany.
However, some Rangers fans interpreted his comments as dismissing Rangers’ 4-2 victory against Dortmund in the Europa League under Giovanni van Bronckhorst, which was a crucial moment in their journey to the final in Seville. McCoist quickly corrected the misunderstanding, emphasizing that he was only referring to Celtic’s record in Germany, not Scottish teams in general.
He humorously told the Rangers fans to “get off my back,” noting that it was already tough enough giving praise to Celtic without Rangers supporters misinterpreting his comments.
