EXCLUSIVE! Ayr Utd leading George Oakley transfer race as Scott Brown battles Championship rivals for Morton striker

Partick Thistle are also keen on Oakley but there’s one thing the Honest Men can offer than Jags likely can’t.

On-form striker George Oakley put Morton into the lead early in the first half

Ayr United is attempting to acquire George Oakley.

The United manager, Scott Brown, is keen recruit the out-of-contract Miller striker. Along with being desired by Championship rivals Pick Thistle, Dougie Imrie, the manager of Morton, has extended an offer to Oakley for a new contract. The 28-year-old performed admirably for ‘Tonne the previous season, and Brown thinks he may offer Ayr greater differentiation.

Oakley is considering his options at the moment. The Englishman, who has spent time in Inverness, has a plethora of Championship experience. Additionally, Oakley has played for Kilmarnock and Hamilton. Despite Imrie’s offer of a deal, it appears like another important player will be lost. Robbie Crawford has already inked a contract with Partick Thistle, and Robbie Muirhead has joined Livingston. Oakley would be guaranteed first-team time, and Ayr appears to be in control while the Jags are led by Brian Graham.
