Birmingham City interim manager Gary Rowett will resign after the season’s last match, according to Football Insider sources.
It is thought that the Blues board has decided that the 50-year-old will not be given the post permanently since his results have not been satisfactory and chiefs have not been impressed.
Rowett, who previously led the Blues from October 2014 to December 2016, was named interim manager on March 19 until the end of the season.
The hierarchy had expected Rowett to make a solid case for the role on a permanent basis, but this is no longer envisaged.
Tony Mowbray’s appointment occurred after he took an official medical leave of absence until the start of preseason 2024/25.

Rowett, who previously played for the Midlands club, was appointed manager for the Championship’s final eight games.
The Blues are currently fighting relegation in the second level, sitting in 22nd place with only one game remaining, a home encounter against Norwich City on Saturday (4 May).
Rowett’s side has 47 points, with Huddersfield Town one place behind on 45 and Plymouth Argyle one spot ahead on 48.

Birmingham, on the other hand, has the best form of the three clubs, having won one and drawn two of their last three matches.
With 50 points each, Blackburn Rovers and Sheffield Wednesday are also in danger of being relegated.
Rotherham United meanwhile have already been relegated to League One, leaving just two spots left ahead of the final matchday.
