Several Blackpool players struggled to find their rhythm during the 2-1 loss to Barnsley at Bloomfield Road.
A stoppage-time goal from Marc Roberts clinched the victory for the visitors, who secured all three points. Davis Keillor-Dunn opened the scoring for Barnsley, but Olly Casey equalized in the second half before Roberts netted the decisive goal.
Following the match, Seasiders assistant coach Steve Agnew offered insight into why some aspects of the game didn’t come together for the Fylde Coast side.
“We had three younger players away on international duty,” he noted. “Rob was in Kazakhstan, and Dom was with England. Sometimes, the travel can impact them and keep them away from the group.
“While we did get some training in, we may have missed out on a bit of tactical work because a couple of players were unavailable.
“This is a committed group; they give their all in training every day and are receptive to our playing style and expectations both in and out of possession.
“Were one or two players a bit off their game today? Perhaps. However, the substitutes made an impact when they came on.
“In the second half, I don’t recall Harry (Tyrer) having to make any saves. We had more possession, but we could have been a greater threat with it—there’s definitely room for improvement.
“All the stats indicate that this is a game we shouldn’t have lost.
“Peterborough is coming up quickly on Tuesday, so we need to prepare and analyze this game.”
