Following Willum Williamson’s impressive hat-trick of assists in Birmingham City’s 7-1 victory over Fulham Under 21s, Chris Davies praised the Iceland international’s development.
The 26-year-old scored twice for Jay Stansfield in the first half and selflessly squared for Alfie May in the second half as the Blues won their biggest home game since December 1994 and advanced to the Bristol Street Motors Trophy knockout stages.
Willumsson was the orchestra’s conductor, although Stansfield, May, Ayumu Yokoyama, Lyndon Dykes, and Keshi Anderson scored the goals.
“He’s a really clever player, he’s got very close control, and he’s obviously big and quite imposing on the pitch, but technically very, very good,” Davies said of the former Go Ahead Eagles star.
He is hard to read because he keeps the ball near to his feet. He uses his passes as a ploy. He is constantly searching for the striker. Really, he’s a striker’s dream because he would constantly seek you out, try to combine with you, and serve you.
He’s done a great job adapting to English football. He has a high ceiling and must continue to put in the effort and make an impact because people are beginning to realise what a talented player he is.
Davies was rather happy with his team’s performance overall. We were clearly the dominant team the entire time, and I felt we looked great. What was particularly pleasing, in my opinion, was that there were a mix of guys who hadn’t played much and those who had.
“We entered the game with the proper mindset and mentality, and we maintained that throughout. At the end of the game, we appeared to still want to stay out there for another thirty minutes. It is therefore quite appealing.
