EXCLUSIVE: Derby County, Stoke City and West Brom eyeing Sheffield Wednesday Star

The Owls look set to face a major battle to keep hold of Windass, who has been a key player for the Owls in recent seasons.

Some of Sheffield Wednesday’s Championship rivals are showing a lot of interest in their attacker Josh Windass, as reported by the Sheffield Star.

One team rumoured to be interested in the player is the aspirational Hull City, who may give the player the chance to stay in Yorkshire and play for his father Dean’s old Club.

However, relocating to the Midlands might also be on the cards.

Now that they have a second-tier return, Derby County, who were just promoted to the Championship, might have a better chance of signing the player.

The departure of Danny Röhl from Sheffield Wednesday may have cost teams like Hull City and Sunderland as much as £10 million.

The player is reportedly being pursued by Stoke City and West Bromwich Albion. If Carlos Corberan’s team makes it through the play-offs, Corberan may be able to get the best out of the Baggies, and the latter team may give him the opportunity to play in the Premier League the following season.

If the Baggies win the play-offs, they will also have the financial advantage of being promoted, which will allow them to spend more money on transfers.

This would enable them to provide the player with a more alluring offer. The athlete has a lot on his plate this summer as he decides whether to stay at Hillsborough or move elsewhere.

Updates about Sheffield Wednesday’s Josh Windass predicament

Their victory on the last day of play helped his squad, under the direction of manager Danny Rohl, stay afloat in the second tier, which may increase their prospects of keeping the player after his contract expires.

The player has total discretion over his future because his Hillsborough contract ends in the summer, but contract negotiations are reportedly still going on.

The Owls will be anxious to retain someone of the 30-year-old’s calibre, but nothing has been agreed upon at this point, according to the Sheffield Star.

Nobody will be envious of Windass as he considers his options.

This summer, he needs to make a very important choice.

Staying at Hillsborough could allow him to stay in his comfort zone and continue to flourish under the extremely capable coaching of Rohl.

He made some great memories on Wednesday, the most memorable of which was likely his play-off goal at the end of the 2022–2023 season.

But Windass has spent a good deal of time at Hillsborough, so it might be advantageous for him to go and start over somewhere new.

He might find a move to Hull especially alluring since he might play for the same team that his father formerly belonged to.

It will be interesting to watch what choice he makes this summer regarding his future.
