Exclusive: Derby County wonderkid touted for exciting future

Dajaune Brown, a Derby County prospect, is expected to have a bright career in the sport.

The 18-year-old is a graduate of the Rams’ academy system, which in recent years has also produced players like Jayden Bogle, Max Bird, Jason Knight, and Eiran Cashin.

In the years to come, Brown will want to follow in the footsteps of his predecessors, and many people anticipate that he will achieve just that.

In January, Brown accepted a loan deal with National League team Gateshead until the end of the season, giving him his first experience of playing in the first team after scoring goals for pleasure for Derby’s under-18 and under-21 teams.

He took full most of the opportunity, scoring nine goals in 22 games to help Gateshead qualify for the play-offs and win the FA Trophy, giving them a taste of success at Wembley.

Paul Warne decided to keep the talented striker at Pride Park for the 2024–25 Championship season after admitting that eight EFL clubs had contacted about his loan availability throughout the summer. As of this writing, Brown has made nine senior appearances for Derby.

Derby County, the verdict for Dajaune Brown

When we asked Shaun Woodward, our resident Rams fan analyst, to pick one Derby player he thinks will be the team’s next big star, he instantly chose Brown.

It’s Dajaune Brown for me. He has years ahead of him because he is only eighteen, and it is obvious that he has a lot of talent and promise,” Shaun told Football League World.

He is already a member of the first team, and Paul Warne has shown that he values him by refusing to loan him out. He is large and strong, quick, raw, and obviously knows where the goal is. He gives us an option off the bench.

“I know he only did it in the National League but the fact is, at 18 years old he’s gone out into men’s football and scored lots of goals and they raved about him, he was the matchwinner for them on many occasions, which ended up with an appearance at Wembley.

“He has some men’s football experience now, and he will only get better for someone so young. He trains with championship guys every day, so in my opinion, he’s someone to keep an eye on for the next two or three years.

Before making the move to the first team, I believe he will require a few more loans, perhaps to a League One or League Two team. However, I believe he has a lot of promise and genuine talent, so I’m eager to watch how his career develops.”

Dajaune Brown’s Derby County chance may arrive this season

Despite his young age and his team’s unexpectedly impressive early-season performance, Brown might soon get a real chance to try out for the Derby first team.

Although there are still unanswered questions regarding where the goals will consistently come from, Warne’s team is now in the top half of the Championship and has started the season better than many had anticipated.

Only five goals have been scored by Derby in open play, and starting striker Jerry Yates has not yet scored despite signing a season-long loan from league rival Swansea City.

Wolves loanee Tawanda Chirewa, who can play through the middle or out wide, hasn’t yet made an impact, and James Collins is still waiting for his first league goal after five efforts.

In a perfect world, Derby would want to help Brown by integrating him into the first team more gradually and patiently. At some point this season, though, their ailing striker lineup might call for a speedier chance for him to demonstrate his abilities.
