The Ecuadorian international scored late goals against Southampton and Leicester, among other significant contributions, to help Town win promotion to the Premier League.

Sarmiento, 21, appeared for the Blues in 16 substitute appearances overall and scored four goals in his six starts.

“I went after him. I saw a lot of games,” De Zerbi remarked. “He wasn’t in the starting lineup for many games, but he was crucial to Ipswich.” The same, I believe, at West Bromwich [where he spent the first half of the season on loan].

“He should play in a different situation. He can play winger or number ten, but he needs to play a specific kind of game.

West Brom and Ipswich both performed well on the pitch. He might play a significant role the following season, but we’ll have to evaluate the group, the newcomers, and players like Deniz Undav (on loan at VfB Stuttgart). We also don’t know if he’ll return.

It was rumoured in Ecuador when Sarmiento signed with Town in January that the agreement would allow the forward to return to the Blues on loan in the summer. However, Town can only recruit two loan players before 2024–2025 due to their elevation to the Premier League.
