Exclusive: ‘I think’: Daniel Farke says ‘magnificent’ player now won’t be at Leeds United next season

Daniel Farke says 'magnificent' player now won't be at Leeds United next season

On Friday night, Daniel Farke had his first opportunity to discuss Leeds United’s transfer activities. Leeds secured a 3-0 victory in their initial pre-season match against Harrogate Town, with Junior Firpo, Georginio Rutter, and Sam Chambers all finding the net. Despite the positive result, the match underscored the limited depth in Farke’s current squad.

The absence of substantial first-team reinforcements following several departures has stirred concern among the fanbase. Leeds featured several young players on the bench, including 15-year-old Harry Gray, reflecting the urgent need for new additions.

Thus far, Leeds have brought in only three players: Joe Rodon, Alex Cairns, and Joe Rothwell. Rothwell made an active debut in Leeds’ colors, showing promise amidst ongoing anxieties over the club’s transfer strategy.

Farke gives update on Liam Cooper’s Leeds future

With three weeks left until the new season kicks off, the pace of activity seems to be picking up.

Reports suggest Jayden Bogle is nearing a move to Elland Road, while Daniel Farke has indicated Max Wober will likely return to Leeds next season.

However, uncertainties persist around players like Crysencio Summerville, Wilfried Gnonto, and Junior Firpo, and acquiring Bogle should kickstart a more substantial recruitment drive in the coming weeks.

In a post-match interview with BBC Radio Leeds, Farke provided clarity on Liam Cooper’s future, confirming he won’t be at Leeds next season despite the club’s offer of a contract extension.

Farke stated, “No, it’s more or less the players that are here are the players that we work with. I’ve said so much about Liam and praised him so much, so I think no words are needed, but right now we concentrate on the players around us.”

One sticking point in Cooper’s talks with Blackburn Rovers is the contract terms. Blackburn have proposed a one-year deal with an option for another based on appearances, while Cooper prefers a guaranteed two-year contract. Resolving this issue is the final hurdle before a potential move can be finalized.
