James Johnson reveals what Bulls’ Derrick Rose was really like
Though Rose was often perceived as serious—rarely showing emotion during All-Star introductions and always focused on the game—Johnson claims he had a lighter side. In fact, according to Johnson, Rose was one of the funniest players once you got to know him.
“He was very quiet until you got close to him. One of the funniest guys ever. As a rookie, I was excited to watch the best player in the league at that time. What he was doing on the court was incredible, even before his MVP season. When he won MVP, he just picked up where he left off,” Johnson shared on *The OGs Show*.
There isn’t a more captivating, blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment in the NBA than Derrick Rose, though Brandon Roy may come close. At his peak, Rose had the Bulls looking like legitimate title contenders thanks to his incredible talent. In his MVP season, Rose averaged 25 points per game, shooting 44.5% from all areas of the court. He also contributed 7.7 assists and averaged over one steal per game.
Now, Rose has transitioned into a mentorship role with Ja Morant and the young core of the Grizzlies. While it’s uncertain when he’ll decide to retire, it seems his playing days are nearing their end.
