The Parramatta Eels have confirmed the signing of South Sydney Rabbitohs halfback Dean Hawkins ahead of the 2025 NRL season. Hawkins has agreed to a two-year deal, securing his place at the club until the end of the 2026 season. He is expected to serve as the primary backup to Dylan Brown and Mitchell Moses.
Hawkins was previously linked with a potential move to the Gold Coast Titans under coach Des Hasler but ultimately opted to join the Eels. A graduate of Champagnat Catholic College in Pagewood, Hawkins brings experience from his 14 first-grade appearances, having debuted in Round 5 of the 2021 season against the Brisbane Broncos.
He stepped up to fill the No.7 jersey for the Rabbitohs after replacing Lachlan Ilias but was unfortunately sidelined by a quad injury for much of the season. Despite this setback, Hawkins is regarded as one of the top backup playmakers and played a key role in leading the Rabbitohs to the 2023 NSW Cup title, earning the 2023 NSW Cup Player of the Year award.
“Dean is a talented player who adds depth to our backline. We look forward to welcoming him to the club in a few weeks to begin pre-season training with our NRL squad,” said Parramatta Eels GM of Football, Mark O’Neill.
