Exclusive: Linnets boss hails ‘proven goalscorers’

King’s Lynn boss Adam Lakeland is confident that his strikers make the team one to watch out for. Gold Omotayo and Jonny Margetts both found the back of the net in their 2-1 home victory against Rushall Olympic in the National League North on Tuesday night.

It was the first time Omotayo and Margetts lined up together, with Margetts returning from suspension. Omotayo, who rejoined King’s Lynn this summer after a stint at Kidderminster, scored from a corner in the sixth minute, and Margetts secured the win with a goal in first-half stoppage time.

King’s Lynn manager, Mark Lakeland, praised the duo, saying, “I’m sure this won’t be the last time we see Omotayo and Margetts on the scoresheet this season. Having two proven goalscorers at the top end of the pitch should make any opposition wary of us.”

Lakeland acknowledged that while there were moments the pair could have played better, they did their job by scoring and securing a 2-1 victory. Margetts, who was frustrated by missing the first two games due to a suspension carried over from last season, made his presence felt upon his return.

Lakeland highlighted Margetts’ qualities, noting, “He’s not just a goalscorer; he works hard, has Yorkshire grit, demands a lot from himself and his teammates, and leads by example.” He also emphasized the importance of Omotayo, mentioning that they are still learning how to maximize his attributes, but with two goals in three games, there’s optimism for more to come.

Omotayo, who initially struggled at King’s Lynn after joining from Wrexham three years ago, found his form under the management of Tommy Widdrington. Lakeland is focused on getting the best out of him now, saying, “You’ve got to play to their strengths. Omotayo has matured and understands his game better now, which will benefit us for the rest of the season.”

King’s Lynn faces Marine, a newly promoted team, on Saturday, followed by a home match against Peterborough Sports on Monday. The team is preparing for a tough challenge against Marine, traveling to Merseyside for an overnight stay before the match. Lakeland stressed the importance of respecting every opponent and doing their due diligence, aiming to win each game.
