Exclusive: Maher’s Eastleigh Reaction

Head Coach Kevin Maher expressed his delight following his team’s 2-0 victory over high-flying Eastleigh. Reflecting on the performance, Maher said, “Against a team near the top of the table, we played well, particularly in the first half. We moved the ball quickly, got into good positions, and scored a great goal through Ralphy. The penalty before halftime was a bonus too.”

He acknowledged the challenges the team faced after losing several players recently, noting, “It’s going to take time for the new players to adjust, but tonight’s result shows that the work we’ve been putting in is paying off.”

Maher was hopeful that the team’s fortunes are turning around after a tough start to the season. “It would’ve been nice to get another goal in the second half, but I would’ve been delighted with 2-0 going into the game.”

He also praised the efforts of striker Bim Pepple and new signing Macauley Bonne. “Bim led the line well and deserved the ovation when he came off. He worked his socks off and is getting better with every game,” Maher said. On Bonne’s debut, he added, “You can see what he’s going to bring with his clever play, and once he’s fully match fit, he’ll be a big asset.”

Looking ahead, Maher and his team will be aiming to extend their unbeaten home run when they return to Roots Hall on Saturday.
