Exclusive: New Celtic recruitment chief ‘one of most clever men in game’….

Spurs legend Steve Perryman believes Celtic have secured one of the sharpest minds in football by appointing Paul Tisdale as their new head of recruitment. Perryman, who worked closely with Tisdale during his time as Exeter City’s director of football, praises Tisdale’s intelligence and ability to assess players. Tisdale, now a self-employed football consultant, is set to take over the recruitment role at Celtic following Mark Lawwell’s departure.

Perryman, a former England midfielder, regards Tisdale as one of the top three most intelligent football people he’s met, highlighting his balanced approach between education and football experience. He describes Tisdale as highly capable in recruitment, decision-making, and handling club affairs.

Tisdale, credited with discovering talents like Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins, is seen as a perfect fit for Celtic’s player-trading strategy, which recently saw Matt O’Riley sold for £25 million and Arne Engels brought in for a record £11 million. Perryman also commends Tisdale’s ability to identify and develop young players, mentioning success stories like Watkins, Swansea’s Matt Grimes, and Ethan Ampadu, whom Tisdale introduced to first-team football at just 15.

Perryman concludes that Tisdale’s judgment, character, and approach make him a valuable asset for any football role.
