Exclusive: One injury boost and one blow for Preston North End ahead of Blackburn Rovers derby day…

Preston North End defender Patrick Bauer is facing a period on the sidelines, with the team awaiting confirmation of the duration. Bauer made his first start in 13 months on Tuesday night and performed well for an hour against Fulham, but had to be substituted in the second half with his arm in a sling, leaving the field in tears. North End manager Paul Heckingbottom expressed concern about the seriousness of the injury, as Bauer is seeing a specialist to determine whether surgery is necessary.

Heckingbottom explained, “He is going to be out; we’re just waiting to see the severity. It’s around his elbow. He made a good block from a free-kick, went to win a header, and got caught in mid-air. He put his hand down to break his fall and hurt himself.” He added that Bauer will be supported during his recovery and can still maintain fitness while he’s out, ensuring he is ready to return when he’s able.

Meanwhile, Andrew Hughes managed to finish the match and scored in the penalty shootout despite taking a hit during the game. He is currently recovering, but Heckingbottom is optimistic about his condition, describing the injury as swelling around his shin, similar to a dead leg. On a positive note, striker Will Keane, who was thought to be sidelined with a hamstring issue, has returned to training, as has Brad Potts, who missed the last game due to a family illness.

Heckingbottom noted, “It was always the plan to give Will time to recover properly and avoid any setbacks. He trained today, and we’re pleased to have him back.”
