Exclusive: Preston North End interested in Premier League striker

Preston North End (PNE) have made a significant managerial change this week by appointing Paul Heckingbottom, who previously managed Sheffield United. Heckingbottom is already taking steps to strengthen his squad, particularly by trying to secure the signing of Bournemouth striker Daniel Jebbison.

PNE’s recent managerial changes saw Ryan Lowe depart just days into the new season, followed by interim manager Mike Marsh stepping down last weekend. Heckingbottom, now in charge, will lead the team in their upcoming match against Luton Town, with former Sheffield United assistant Stuart McCall joining his coaching staff.

Heckingbottom is reportedly attempting to hijack Watford’s planned move for Jebbison, who recently transferred from Sheffield United to Bournemouth. Although Watford had reached an agreement to sign Jebbison, the deal won’t be finalized until after Bournemouth’s game against Newcastle United this weekend. This delay gives PNE a chance to persuade Jebbison to join them instead.

Heckingbottom is a strong admirer of Jebbison, having given him his debut at Sheffield United, and is eager to reunite with the young striker at Deepdale. PNE currently have Will Keane, who scored 13 goals in the Championship last season, leading their attack. They also have Milutin Osmajic, Montenegro international, and Emil Riis, who is in the final year of his contract. Layton Stewart, a 2023 signing from Liverpool, has yet to start a Championship game, while Ched Evans has transitioned into a player-coach role.
