EXCLUSIVE: Rangers ‘interested’ in 6ft 6inch stopper after claims of free transfer agreement

Since the Rangers’ 2023–24 season came to an end, hardly a single day has gone by without a transfer rumour surfacing.

Rangers and domestic opponent enter the queue for Stojan Lekovic. The only clear departure will be Jon McLaughlin; even though he plays for Scotland, he does not match UEFA’s requirements for homegrown status, therefore it is understandable why he hasn’t received a contract extension offer.Aberdeen has been linked to Robby McCrorie, while Liam Kelly is rumoured to have reached a pre-contract arrangement with Rangers.Andre Oechsnar, writing on X for fussballeuropa.com, has mentioned that Rangers are interested in signing 6-foot-6-inch Serbian custodian Stojan Lekovic, and Aberdeen is also keeping an eye on him.

“Stojan Lekovic, one of Serbia’s best goalkeepers, was first on Werder Bremen’s list.

Aberdeen FC and Glasgow Rangers are considering a trade.

“Lekovic is a great value.”

Lekovic plays for Serbian outfit Radnicki, who placed fifth in the Super Liga this season, and has yet to receive any recognition on the international or age group scene.

It’s evident that Nils Koppen is reaching further than any of his predecessors, as he has already established transfer ties with Argentina, Cyprus, Bulgaria, Hungary, and Serbia.

Clement has already addressed concerns about Jack Butland leaving.

When a custodian is being linked, there’s no doubt that Rangers are bracing themselves for the worst and will consider offers for Jack Butland.

A notion that Philippe Clement has already discussed:

“Only if you are certain that you can acquire better for less money can you sell players.

The extra money you have can then be applied to other roles. That may require a choice.

“But for any price, there are a few players I just can’t let go of.”

Clement replied as follows when asked if Butland was on that list:

Yes, that is a good example. That, in my opinion, is crucial for this club.

Fans of the Rangers are not foolish.

They are aware that considering how the funds may be used to bolster the team, it would be foolish to reject a deal for Butland that falls between Rangers’ estimated value of £10–15 million.

The manager will work with Koppen to create a budget, but any money received from sales should be returned to him directly.

It’s not like anyone would want Butland gone.
