Rangers defender Robin Propper has reacted after Scott Wright’s deadline day transfer to Birmingham City was confirmed.
The Scottish winger, who spent a large portion of the summer transfer window linked to a move away from Ibrox, concluded his stint in Glasgow on Friday, August 30, after making the rumored £300,000 move to St Andrew’s [Sky Sports, 29 August].
Throughout his tenure with Rangers, Wright undoubtedly divided opinion among analysts and supporters, but teammate Propper was ready to respond when the League One team announced the 27-year-old’s last-minute transfer. After sharing a changing room for a few months, the Light Blues defender posted two emojis of praise in response to Birmingham City and Wright’s Instagram post on Friday, August 30.
Did Rangers make any signings on transfer deadline day at Ibrox?
Propper and Wright may not have played together for very long at Rangers, but based on his prompt response to the change, it appears that the winger was well-liked by teammates in the Gers’ locker room.
In the end, it seems like Clement’s team has moved past the Scotsman throughout the summer, concentrating more on wingers that are similar to Vaclav Cerny or Oscar Cortes than on Wright. For the Light Blues, what matters most is that they were able to remove him from their payroll well in advance of the deadline, allowing them to add a few last-minute items before the window closed.
It may not have been quite a severe rebuild of the squad as most fans expected given Clement’s public desire to make some big changes, but on the face of it, Rangers looked better equipped to overthrow Celtic than they did 12 months ago.
When the two Old Firm rivals play one other for the first time this season at Parkhead on Sunday, September 1, it will be evident whether or not that is actually the case.
