Erol Bulut has promised significant changes following Cardiff City’s recent loss to Middlesbrough, which marked their fourth consecutive Championship game without a win. This defeat ensures Cardiff will stay at the bottom of the table for at least another two weeks. Bulut’s tenure, which began with high hopes following his new contract and eight summer signings, has not started as expected.
Cardiff’s current league performance is dismal: four games, no wins, 10 goals conceded, and only one goal scored. The latest setback has led some fans to call for major changes before their next match against Derby County, and it seems Bulut will respond accordingly.
Bulut criticized the team’s inability to capitalize on scoring opportunities, noting, “We didn’t take our chances to score. In the first half, neither side created much. In the second half, we had several opportunities early on but failed to convert. Conceding from a set piece and an own goal made it worse. When chances arise, we must take them, which has been a problem for us.”
He emphasized the need for individual performance analysis, stating, “We need to look at individual player statistics. There will definitely be changes after the international break, and everyone must accept that.”
Bulut acknowledged some players’ efforts, like Ollie Tanner and Rubin Colwill, but stressed the need for collective involvement. He pointed out that although players like Manolis Siopis performed well under pressure, more support is needed from the entire squad.
Fans have questioned Bulut’s decision to field the same starting XI that performed poorly against Swansea, despite standout performances from Tanner, Colwill, and Callum Robinson. Bulut explained, “Everyone expected different players to start, but Callum Robinson had only trained once this week due to an Achilles injury. We make decisions based on daily observations, and consistency is key.”
He added, “If players show consistency, they will play from the start. We need to see performance throughout the entire match. We are considering all factors.”
Bulut also addressed the transfer window, noting that despite his attempts to bring in a pacey winger, he was unsuccessful. “I was focused on acquiring a winger with pace, but I couldn’t find one,” he said. “I may look into the free agent market, but we’ll see.”
