Former Wolverhampton Wanderers player Don Goodman has predicted that Bristol City will turn their season around after a challenging start.
Liam Manning’s side has won only one of their first four league matches this season, securing a 4-3 victory over Millwall. They have also managed to earn respectable 1-1 draws against Hull City and Coventry City but went into the international break following a heavy 3-0 defeat to newly-promoted Derby County.
Despite this rocky start to the 24/25 campaign, Goodman is confident that the squad at Ashton Gate has the quality needed to achieve positive results in the upcoming weeks.
Goodman believes Bristol City will respond after their loss to Derby County. Although City controlled much of the play at Pride Park, they struggled to break through Derby’s defense, with the Rams capitalizing on their chances. Goals from Kenzo Goudmijn, Kayden Jackson, and David Ozoh sealed the win for Derby, providing City with a harsh lesson before the Championship’s two-week break.
With summer signings Scott Twine and Sinclair Armstrong still adjusting, Goodman is optimistic about the squad’s potential if Liam Manning is given the time to implement his strategies in the coming months.
He commented, “Bristol City’s loss to Derby County was a wake-up call and a shock after what had been a solid start to the season.
“Many expected Bristol City to have the tools to overcome Derby, even at Pride Park. They won’t be pleased with the way they conceded the goals.”

“Bristol City need to be more clinical and ruthless with the chances they create. However, I’m impressed with their recruitment and think Liam Manning is a young, promising coach, so patience will be key.”
After a mixed start to the season, Bristol City will be aiming to find their rhythm following the international break, starting with a trip to Ewood Park this Saturday.
Blackburn Rovers will provide a significant challenge, as John Eustace’s side has been prolific, scoring 17 goals in all competitions from just six matches this season.
With upcoming fixtures against Oxford United, Swansea City, Sheffield Wednesday, and Cardiff City before the next international break, Bristol City has a good opportunity to gain points and build momentum at Ashton Gate.
With that in mind, Goodman is optimistic that Bristol City could soon turn their fortunes around in the West Country as the Robins begin to meet the expectations set for them.
He added, “They’ve got Blackburn next, and Manning will be seeking a response. Following that, they face Oxford at home, Swansea City away, Sheffield Wednesday at home, and Cardiff City at home.
“On paper, this sequence of five games offers the potential to collect 9 or 10 points. If they can achieve that, the league table will look very different for them.”
