As the January transfer window nears, Derby County is facing the potential departure of four players who could be seeking opportunities elsewhere.
Ben Radcliffe, currently impressing on loan at Gateshead, could attract attention from League Two clubs. The 21-year-old defender has shown his potential in the National League and might move up to a higher division to further his development. His loan expires in January, and a permanent move could help him stake a claim for Derby’s first team in the future.
Dajaune Brown, a 19-year-old striker, has struggled to find regular first-team football this season despite training with Derby’s senior squad throughout pre-season. Brown’s progress in lower divisions, including a productive loan spell at Gateshead, has shown promise, but the lack of game time in the Championship may push him to seek a loan in League One or League Two. However, any move could be dependent on Derby strengthening their attacking options before allowing him to leave.
Conor Washington, once a key figure for Derby, has seen his involvement reduced this season. The 32-year-old forward has even been playing with the U21 squad due to the rise of other players like Jerry Yates and Brown. An ankle injury last year hampered his performances, and Washington may look for a fresh start in League One, where regular playing time is more likely. His experience could still be valuable to a team in need of a proven goalscorer.
Lastly, Tom Barkhuizen is another experienced player who has found it difficult to secure a regular spot in the squad this season. The arrival of new wingers like Kayden Jackson and Marcus Harness has pushed him down the pecking order. At 31, Barkhuizen may seek a move in January to prolong his career, with a return to Blackpool being a potential destination where he could contribute more regularly. His exit would free up squad space for Derby to bring in new signings.
These potential departures would help Derby County to refresh their squad for the second half of the season while giving these players opportunities to rejuvenate their careers elsewhere.
