Exclusive: ‘Unfortunate’ – Birmingham City star shares honest verdict after summer transfer exit

Tyler Roberts has acknowledged that his time at Birmingham City has been “unfortunate” as he looks to make the most of his loan move to Northampton Town. The 25-year-old forward was sent on a season-long loan to Birmingham’s League One rivals on deadline day after falling out of favor under manager Chris Davies, following the arrivals of Luke Harris, Willum Willumsson, and Jay Stansfield.

Roberts, who made just two Carabao Cup appearances for Birmingham before his loan, is under contract with the club until 2027. Injuries and inconsistency have hampered his form in recent seasons, and he hopes to rediscover his rhythm at Northampton.

In an interview with the *Northampton Chronicle and Echo*, Roberts explained his main goal for the loan spell: “Consistency. That’s what I have struggled with over the last couple of seasons… I just want to show the ability that I know I have.” After enduring injuries and limited game time during his first season with Birmingham, he feels confident in his fitness heading into this new chapter at Sixfields.

Roberts joined Birmingham on a free transfer from Leeds United last summer but was limited to just 19 appearances due to injury setbacks, including a three-month absence after a debut injury against Swansea City. Now, at Northampton, he is determined to prove his worth and help the team, with the opportunity to play regularly and in various positions under manager Jon Brady.
