Exclusive: West Ham ‘tried to seduce’ player after Manchester United offered 4 year contract

West Ham United and Manchester United both attempted to sign Adrien Rabiot on a free transfer, according to *L’Equipe*, which provides details on their unsuccessful bids to land the midfielder.

Rabiot’s contract with Juventus expired on June 30th, and he spent several months searching for a new club before agreeing to join Marseille. The 29-year-old wanted to play for a team that could offer European football, holding talks with Manchester United and Atlético Madrid. Reportedly, Erik ten Hag’s side offered him a four-year contract, though this claim has been questioned due to Rabiot’s age.

*L’Equipe* also noted that West Ham and Galatasaray attempted to persuade the former Paris Saint-Germain player to join them. However, Rabiot chose Marseille, influenced by advisor Medhi Benatia’s convincing approach and support from Roberto De Zerbi, who reportedly made multiple calls to Rabiot.

After securing Rabiot’s commitment, Marseille worked hard on the financial details, with Rabiot reportedly making a significant effort to finalize the move. The report frames this transfer as somewhat of a PR win for both Rabiot and Marseille.
