Jamie Cooke’s performance in Halifax’s opening day win against Barnet exemplified the work ethic and determination that Chris Millington expects from his squad. Cooke’s goal showcased both his off-the-ball efforts and technical skill, as he made a dynamic run to meet Adan George’s cross and finish with a brilliant first-time strike.

Cooke commented on the goal, saying, “Adan got down the right side and I knew he’d keep the ball in, so I made a real effort to get into the box. It was an instinctive finish, and I’m glad it went in. It was a big game, and hopefully, it sets us up for a successful season.”

Reflecting on the team’s spirit, Cooke noted, “We’re a group of motivated young players all aiming for the same goal. We’re in it together, and this season, everyone is really driven.”

As one of the club’s longest-serving players, Cooke feels a strong connection with the team and coaching staff. “It’s a bit mad to be the second-longest serving player after Sam Johnson,” he said. “My relationship with the gaffer and the staff has helped me grow both as a player and a person. I really enjoy being here and feel like I’ve grown up with the club.”

Cooke signed a new contract this summer, expressing his commitment to Halifax. “I was set on staying because I love the club and working with the gaffer and the staff. I knew I wanted to stay.”

Throughout his time at Halifax, Cooke’s understanding of the game has evolved significantly. “I’ve learned a lot about the game and my versatility as a player,” he said. “I’ve played almost every position except goalkeeper and center-back. I think this season, I want to improve my goal and assist numbers.”

Cooke targets double figures for goals and assists this season, aiming to enhance his attacking contributions. “We’ve discussed this with the gaffer. I want to improve the attacking side of my game and reach double figures.”

Looking ahead, Cooke believes Halifax can achieve great things. “If we continue performing well and getting results, there’s no reason we can’t compete at the top of the table. We’ve had some good seasons, but it’s time to take the next step.”
