Fabrizio Romano has reported that Manchester City has started preliminary discussions with Celtic regarding a potential deal for Kyogo Furuhashi. The 29-year-old striker, who was absent from Celtic’s 3-1 victory over Hibernian due to a shoulder injury, is now being targeted by Pep Guardiola’s team.
Fabrizio Romano mentioned on Twitter/X that Kyogo Furuhashi is being considered as one of the options for Manchester City as they search for a backup to Erling Haaland. However, Romano mistakenly referred to Kyogo as a winger in his update, which isn’t accurate. This might be due to a lack of attention to detail or simply repeating information from others, but it’s unlikely that City would see Kyogo as a wide player.
Earlier reports from The Celtic Star were later confirmed by The Athletic, revealing that Kyogo Furuhashi is on a two-man shortlist for Manchester City. This indicates serious interest from City, which could pose a significant challenge for Celtic at this point in the transfer window.
Earlier this summer, Kyogo unexpectedly switched agents to CAA Base, a move that caused concern among Celtic fans, who recall the agency’s role in facilitating Ange Postecoglou’s departure to Spurs.
