Connor Barron suffers Aberdeen backlash amid tough time at Rangers as Ryan Jack speaks out

Connor Barron: I'll ignore critics to be a success at Rangers | STV News

Ryan Jack acknowledges that Connor Barron is likely facing a “tough time” at Rangers due to the “backlash” from Aberdeen fans. Jack, who left Rangers earlier this summer after his contract expired, was replaced by the 21-year-old Barron, who made the same move from Aberdeen to Ibrox.

Speaking on *The Warm-Up* on 9 August, Jack shared that Barron has made a strong start at Rangers and advised him to ignore the “irrelevant” criticism from his former supporters. Jack emphasized that Barron should focus on his new role at a major club and block out external negativity. He expressed confidence that Barron would receive strong support from within the club, just as Jack did during his own transition.

Jack also mentioned that although Rangers and Aberdeen don’t have the best relationship, Barron has shown great promise in his initial performances under Philippe Clement, who immediately included him in the Rangers starting lineup. However, the transfer has yet to be officially settled, with Aberdeen potentially taking Rangers to a tribunal over the compensation fee.

Jack, who could have been an ideal mentor for Barron, did not receive a contract extension due to his ongoing fitness issues. Despite suggestions that a pay-as-you-play deal could have been an option, it seems that possibility has passed. Barron, however, appears to be embracing his new challenge, showing determination in his early games, even though there may be room for Clement to adjust the formation to provide more defensive support for Barron and his midfield partner, Mohamed Diomande.
