Okay Yokuslu, a midfielder for West Bromwich Albion, is still someone Trabzonspor is hoping to sign again this summer, the Express and Star report.
The giants of Turkey have always been interested. Trabzonspor is only one Süper Lig team that will try to sign him during the summer transfer window, according to a report from Turkish website Sports Digitale earlier this year. Yokuslu has been frequently linked to returning to his home nation of Turkey in the past year, and heavyweights Galatasaray are rumored to have been ready to make a summer move for the 30-year-old.
Yokuslu was originally signed by West Brom on loan from Celta Vigo in the January transfer window of 2021, and he made 16 appearances for the Baggies. Despite some outstanding individual performances, Yokuslu was unable to keep the Midlands team from being relegated from the Premier League to the Championship. Yokuslu returned to West Brom in the summer of 2022 after his contract with Celta Vigo expired. Yokuslu has been a crucial part of Albion’s impressive defensive record over the last eighteen months under Carlos Corberan.
The 30-year-old has made 105 appearances for the Baggies across all competitions, with two assists and five goals over that span. His primary function in a double-pivot is as the deepest midfielder, protecting the backline with his deep positioning and providing defensive stability with his superb game reading.
Okay Yokuslu linked with Trabzonspor return
The midfield player has just 12 months left on his contract at The Hawthorns in the summer, which may be the Baggies’ last opportunity to sign him before his current deal with West Brom expires at the conclusion of the 2024–2025 season. Trabzonspor is reportedly interested in Albion defender Cedric Kipre, but the Express and Star also state that the Turkish powerhouses are still “interested in taking Baggies midfielder Okay Yokuslu back to his homeland.”
Yokuslu, who is now representing Turkey at the European Championships, was a player with Trabzonspor from 2015 to 2018, spending 106 games in that span. Following the most recent information provided by Turkish writer Ertan Süzgün, Ozan Tufan appears to be planning to depart Hull City for Trabzonspor this summer, making him not the only Championship midfielder being connected with a return to Turkish football.
Okay Yokuslu departure would be a significant loss for West Brom
That would be a huge loss for Corberan, who has relied heavily on him this season and has been nearly constant. Unfortunately, promotion is sometimes the only option available to Championship teams in order to keep hold of key players. This is also the case with West Brom and players such as Yokuslu. There’s a good chance he leaves this summer considering his contract status, particularly if a team from his native country offers him a chance to return and play for one of the top teams in the Süper Lig.
Yoksulu has been fantastic for the Baggies. Despite his age, a lot of clubs in Europe should be interested in him because of his disruptive qualities and ability to generate plays from deep, which have enormous potential for a lot of teams.
