Former officials have questioned a callum McGregor incident that went unnoticed during Celtic’s victory over Hearts.
On Saturday afternoon, the Hoops easily defeated the team that has already defeated them twice this season, 3-0, by dominating their opponents at Parkhead. In addition to giving them a step closer to winning the league, the outcome gave the hosts impetus from their impressive performance.
All three points were secured with goals from Kyogo (braces) and Matt O’Riley (penalty kick), however two former referees have stated that things would have gone differently if VAR had stepped in during a challenge.
Kenneth Vargas tried to advance to launch an attack for the Jambos during the initial part of the fight, but McGregor stopped him. The captain attempted to jump the Costa Rican while he was sitting on the deck, but it appeared that his studs caught him in the leg.
Vargas tumbled to the ground clutching his head as the Celtic player’s knee appeared to touch it. Former whistleblowers Steve Conroy and Des Roache felt that VAR should have taken closer look at the event.
“We spoke on the podcast yesterday about the one on (James) Forrest not shown on highlight packages,” the couple wrote on social media from their Behind The Whistles account. We questioned the absence of VAR evaluation as well. Here’s another one. He attempted to leap over the man on the ground, but he was grabbed. Debatable if careless SFP (severe foul play) or Y (yellow card). Worth checking out—it’s not insignificant.”
