Former Wolves defender Danny Batth looks set to become a free agent this summer after penning an apparent goodbye to Norwich City.

The 33-year-old’s season is over after the Canaries suffered a 4-0 defeat to Leeds United in the Championship play-offs. His time at Carrow Road also looks to be coming to an end after joining them on a free transfer in September 2023.

He made 21 appearances in all competitions but was only an unused substitute for their two play-off matches against Leeds United. Norwich City have since sacked head coach David Wagner and are in advanced talks over a replacement with Batth’s future seemingly lying away from the Norfolk club.

Norwich are expected to announce their retained list shortly after being granted more time because of their involvement in the play-offs. It seems however that Batth’s future has been made up as posting on his social media accounts, Batth said: “Thank you Norwich. It’s been a privilege to play for the club and appreciate all your support this season.

“We ultimately fell short after reaching the play-offs, but it has been a new experience and I look forward to what is next.”

Batth began his career at Wolves but made his senior debut for Colchester United during a loan spell in 2009. He appeared 212 times for the club and remained with them following their relegation to League One and was named in the PFA Team of the Year after being ever present.

Batth departed the club for Stoke City in 2018 and spent three-and-a-half years there appearing 107 times before moving on to Sunderland in League One. The centre-back helped the Black Cats get over the line as they were promoted via the play-offs and then played 40 times as they secured a top six finish last season.
