Gary O’Neil gives a positive update on Matheus Cunha’s injury, but the important player is out for Wolves vs. Luton.

As one first-team player is ruled out ahead of Luton, Gary O’Neil has provided Wolves supporters with an update on the club’s injury situation.

Wolves have been beset by injuries in 2024. The Wolves first squad has had a great start to the season, but some of its stars have been out for extended periods of time.

O’Neil’s team has seen a sharp decline in performance as a result, winning just one of their last seven games. The Molineux team was on the verge of Europe before to Wolves’ arrival, and the manager of Wolves has expressed his anger.

The club’s final opportunity to snap their current losing skid this season is coming Saturday against Luton. The tie is followed by Man City and Liverpool, with an impressive Crystal Palace team in between.

O’Neil was able to give a positive update on Matheus Cunha, but it does not appear that the fitness of the other great players is improving.

Matheus Cunha – injury update

The Brazilian has been an essential member of Wolves’ team this season. When Cunha initially joined Wolves under Julen Lopetegui, he was considered a “flop,” but O’Neil has helped him transform his career.

The assailant has given numerous noteworthy performances. The most noteworthy was Cunha’s hat-trick in Chelsea’s 4-2 triumph at Stamford Bridge.

The Brazilian’s hamstring injury, which kept him out of action for almost two months, was therefore a huge loss.

Cunha experienced a setback last week despite making his first start since returning against Nottingham Forest.

O’Neil has now stated that Cunha ought to be ready to play Luton. “Cunha performed incredibly well, finished the game well, and hasn’t faced any consequences for the minutes he played, so he’ll be in a better spot for us tomorrow,” the man stated.

Luton is scheduled to return on April 27.

Santiago Bueno’s most recent injury

Finally, the Uruguayan has been included in the starting lineup. Santiago Bueno hasn’t been given many opportunities to flourish since signing in the summer.

O’Neil has frequently used a backline consisting of Craig Dawson, Max Kilman, and Toti Gomes. The Uruguayan has been given his opportunity, though, as the latter has been out for months.

Sadly, this streak is about to come to an end. O’Neil had to replace Bueno against Bournemouth because of a hamstring issue, and things haven’t gotten any better lately.

“Santi Bueno is going to be out,” O’Neil stated. “It’s not too serious, nothing too long, we’re hopeful for Manchester City and extremely confident for Crystal Palace, but it’s disappointing nonetheless.”

Expected return: Crystal Palace (May 11)

Toti Gomes – injury latest

This season, Toti Gomes has been a consistent member of the Wolves defense. The Portuguese international, who was previously utilized as a squad member, has now secured a long-term position.

This season, and hopefully into the upcoming one, the defender has been one of Wolves’ most reliable players.

Nevertheless, Toti might be out on Saturday because of a minor hamstring strain, but the Wolves manager is optimistic that he will be fine.

This might put Wolves in a terrible situation. As O’Neil’s options become more limited, Kilman is now the only senior center-back who is fit for the team.

Luton is scheduled to return on April 27.

Hwang Hee-Chan – injury latest

The leading scorer for Wolves in 2024 hasn’t had much opportunity to impress thus far. He only made two appearances in the Premier League after returning from his Asian Cup trip before Hwang was hurt against Brighton.

O’Neil declared following the loss to Newcastle that the South Korean international would miss six weeks of action.

Hwang has been gradually regaining his fitness ever since. The South Korean started both games against Arsenal and Bournemouth after coming on against Nottingham Forest.

O’Neil has now verified that Hwang will be able to play for Luton. “Channy came through OK, a first 90, which was good for him,” the speaker said. The others are alright, and he will be available once more.
