Nevertheless, he was one of the ten players Pompey released last week, despite being sidelined for the entire season and having not kicked a ball since his injury.
Furthermore, Mousinho acknowledges that the choice and its conditions were difficult.
“It’s definitely harsh, but it’s just separating what’s harsh and what’s not,” he said to The News.
We are at ease with that because we are aware that Josh’s enormous fan base at Bognor, Robbie Blake, for instance, will be able to secure a football club with the help of our connections. Such a good football team would allow him to advance and attempt to climb the league ladder once more.
“We know there are football clubs out there for Josh; I’m not saying that’s the only one he can go to; it’s just an example.”
‘’Josh has been injured, but we felt that we could evaluate him based on what we know about him and what we seen from the previous season. It was a difficult decision since we took that step forward.
Josh’s perfect season this year would have involved going out on loan following the preseason, having a strong second half of the season, and then possibly improving in January. Afterward, we may have kept an eye on him and observed his performance to secure a new contract.
Sadly, he hasn’t been able to accomplish that, thus we’ve advanced. It’s not nice, and it’s brutal, but we have to accept the fact that some of these young men must go and perform these tasks.
Dockerill previously had a great loan stint at the Rocks at the end of the 2022–2023 season. He made his first-team debut as a substitute against AFC Wimbledon in the Papa John’s Trophy in November 2022.
Most importantly, though, Pompey’s move to the Championship implies that it has affected his prospects at Fratton Park.
Mousinho continued, saying that things may have turned out differently if we had stayed in League One.
However, given what we know about Josh, we felt confident in our decision to advance to the next phase at this time.
