HEARTACHE FOR CELTIC’S £3m TARGET

Celtic’s £3 million target, Mateusz Bogusz, witnessed his Los Angeles team suffer a heartbreaking 3-1 defeat to Columbus Crew in the Leagues Cup Final this morning, after conceding two stoppage-time goals. The Polish midfielder, likely playing his final match for the MLS club, aimed to end on a high note. However, negotiations with Celtic stalled as Bogusz and his teammates focused on the high-stakes match in Ohio.

Columbus Crew took the lead just before halftime, with Cucho Hernandez scoring in the 45th minute. However, former Arsenal star Olivier Giroud equalized for LA 12 minutes into the second half, following a well-delivered left-wing corner from Celtic target Mateusz Bogusz. Bogusz was substituted just after the hour mark, with striker Cristian Olivera coming on as LA pushed forward in their quest for victory. Unfortunately, their hopes were dashed when Columbus struck twice in the dying moments. Hernandez scored his second goal two minutes into stoppage time, and Jacen Russell Rowe sealed the win in the 94th minute.

Negotiations for the 23-year-old Mateusz Bogusz are expected to resume immediately as Celtic aim to finalize the deal before Friday’s 11 pm signing deadline. The dynamic midfielder, who played a key role in LA’s journey to Ohio with a goal in their 4-0 semi-final victory over Colorado Rapids, has caught the attention of Brendan Rodgers’ scouts after scoring 13 goals and providing five assists in his last 14 games. Bogusz, who earns around £10,000 per week, is under contract with the MLS club until December 2026, but the Cup Final loss might have been his final appearance for them.
