Heartbreaking: Paul Warne target will regret not joining Derby County due to….

Derby County made several solid additions to their squad over the summer but overlooked a crucial area of need.

The Rams brought in 12 new players to gear up for the Championship, with goalkeeper Jacob Widell Zetterstrom being the standout signing. His performances have led to three clean sheets at home, helping Derby maintain a perfect record at Pride Park under manager Paul Warne.

Warne also strengthened his midfield with signings like Ebou Adams, Ben Osborn, David Ozoh, and Kenzo Goudmijn, who have all made strong starts to the season. However, the lack of a new striker remains a concern, especially after late moves for Watford’s Mileta Rajovic and Ipswich Town’s Ali Al-Hamadi fell through on deadline day.

Cauley Woodrow might regret not joining Derby County

Another striker Derby targeted late in the window was Cauley Woodrow, who appeared on their radar throughout August. Despite already securing Kayden Jackson and Jerry Yates as forward options, Derby were keen to add a third, and Woodrow seemed like a realistic target.

The 29-year-old, who previously scored 53 goals in 157 appearances for Barnsley, joined Luton Town in 2022 but has struggled to find form, netting just six goals in 63 matches. Last season, Woodrow made only two Premier League starts as Luton were relegated, and he likely expected more playing time in the Championship. Unfortunately, he’s mostly been a bench player, featuring in just five of Luton’s six games and playing only 11 minutes this season.

Woodrow might now regret not pushing harder for a move, as Derby would have provided him with more opportunities for regular playing time.

Cauley Woodrow could have been a valuable addition for Warne

Derby’s current strikers excel at exploiting space with their speed, while Woodrow offers a different set of skills. He thrives as a physical presence, holding up the ball, winning aerial duels, and scoring from inside the box. Although his recent goal-scoring form is a concern, Woodrow would have given Warne a unique option in attack.

Woodrow could have been an effective substitute or started in away matches where Derby needed to alleviate defensive pressure. While his scoring record might be disappointing, Warne may have been able to unlock his potential in the Championship.
