JACKSONVILLE – Tuesday marked the final Jaguars practice open to the media for full viewing during the 2024 preseason.
It was the 19th practice since Jaguars 2024 Training Camp began, a two-and-half-hour session in helmets and shoulder pads at the Miller Electric Center. Each day throughout camp, members of Jaguars Media – senior writer John Oehser and senior correspondent Brian Sexton – will share an observation.
Here are Tuesday’s “campservations,” the final version of the ’24 preseason:
Tuesday not only marked the final ’24 preseason practice open to the media for full viewing, it marked one of the Jaguars’ longest practices of the preseason. While it wasn’t the most intense or physical practice of the preseason, it featured a regular-season practice feel as the Jaguars prepared for Friday’s ’24 preseason finale against the Atlanta Falcons. It also featured another strong practice from quarterback Trevor Lawrence. While essentially splitting repetitions with backup quarterback Mac Jones, Lawrence threw just one incompletion and three red-zone touchdown passes in seven-on-seven work. He also turned in the day’s highlight play with a long touchdown pass to second-year wide receiver Parker Washington, who continues to be a preseason standout and who is making the Jaguars’ receiving corps look like a deep unit as the regular season approaches.
Two guys I have enjoyed watching in the first two preseason games caught my attention on the practice field on Tuesday. Jalen Jackson, the undrafted rookie running back from Villanova, reminds me so much of former Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew as a rookie. Maybe it’s his frame, which is compact and powerful, or his running style – which is best described as combative – but he’s fun to watch with the ball in his hands. The same can be said of veteran wide receiver Austin Trammell, who is reminiscent of Wes Welker with his precise routes that he uses to create excellent separation in tight spaces – and the way he fights for every inch of every yard after the catch. I can see both players being in Jacksonville this fall, most likely on the practice squad. But it isn’t a stretch to see one or the other getting a shot at being elevated to the active roster on a Friday and contributing on a Sunday.
