Hugh Keevins shares why Celtic would be punished amid Rangers controversy claim

Hugh Keevins believes Celtic would be punished if the Rangers game against Dundee was rearranged at Ibrox.

After a caller claimed on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard on Wednesday (10 April) that the fixture should be played at the Gers’ stadium following the second postponement, the Daily Record journalist accepted that The Dee have “forfeited the right” to dictate what happens next.

But he added that the Hoops are entitled to think that, if the game can’t be played at Dens Park, then it will be staged somewhere other than Ibrox, given how close the title race is between the Old Firm clubs.

“I accept that Dundee have forfeited the right in my eyes to dictate what happens next,” said Keevins. “However, in terms of staging the match at Ibrox, there’s an element of punishment there where Celtic are concerned because they are, alongside Rangers, very tight.

Rangers: Hugh Keevins rages over 'unfair' John Beaton decision

“There’s one point and one goal in it. Celtic are entitled to think that, at the very least, if the game can’t be played on the swamp that is known as Dens Park, then it should be staged at a ground other than Ibrox.”

Could the Rangers game against Dundee be played at Ibrox?

It wouldn’t really be fair for the rearranged fixture to be played at Ibrox as that would undermine the nature of the competition given that Rangers would gain the home advantage.

It remains to be seen whether or not Dundee will be able to host the game at the third attempt on 17 April as that will depend on the weather forecast.

While they have perhaps lost the right to play the match at Dens Park, there are plenty of other stadiums where it could be played if it comes down to it.

The Gers would no doubt just like to get the fixture out of the way now as it’s currently preventing them from regaining top spot in the Scottish Premiership.

But Philippe Clement will be emphasising the importance of remaining calm and taking each game at a time as there are other huge fixtures that lie ahead in the next few weeks.
