Hugh Keevins slams Philippe Clement after what Rangers manager said about Sky Sports pundit

Hugh Keevins has criticised Phillipe Clement following his Rangers v Celtic comments about former referee Dermot Gallagher.

It is safe to say that the Gers’ boss was keen to back his players following some negative comments made about Fabio Silva.

The Portuguese loanee, 21, drew criticism of his own following his performance in the old firm despite winning a penalty.

There were suggestions that he had dived to win the spot-kick but Gallagher did not agree. The Rangers boss picked up on this but took a swipe, saying: “He is more a favourite of Celtic.”

Speaking to the Daily Record, Keevins has shared his frustrations about Clement and comments he has made post Old Firm.

He said: “What have we done to him in the space of six months? Clement came here as a man of sophistication with multiple title wins in Belgium and a spell at Monaco in France adding to his continental lustre.

“Now he’s babbling on about people having different coloured glasses. Or telling us he has it on good authority that Sky Sports’ referee in residence Dermot Gallagher is more of a Celtic supporter than he is a neutral observer.”

In the Old Firm, John Beaton was certain that Silva had taken a dive as Alistair Johnston made a tackle inside the area.

After a lengthy check, it was deemed that the Canadian had made contact with the Rangers man and a penalty was given.

Other than this, it was a quiet performance from the Wolves loanee who was taken off after 69 minutes and just 33 touches [FotMob].

Rangers

Fabio Silva joined Rangers in January

He made just nine accurate passes, no tackles made and six duels lost which made life more difficult for Dujon Sterling behind him.

Silva had been criticised for diving earlier in the game as the referee often looked the other way as he went down at various points in the first half. This potentially swayed his opinion as he booked him for going down inside the Celtic penalty area.

Given that there was contact from the defender, it could be said that Silva had the right to go down and have a penalty awarded. There are certainly points to take from either side of the argument.
