‘I had the feeling’ – Manager sends Leeds United, Southampton and Norwich City bullish play-off warning

According to manager Carlos Corberan, West Bromwich Albion will head into the Championship play-offs with the same assurance and faith they have displayed the whole season as they work to advance. Following their 3-0 victory over Preston North End on Saturday, the Baggies secured their place in the top six and moved above of Norwich City, finishing fifth in the Championship table.

In order to compete in the play-off final at Wembley Stadium, the Baggies will now play Southampton over two legs. Following Leeds United’s match against Norwich City on Sunday, the first leg at The Hawthorns will take place. On Friday, May 17, the West Midlands team will travel to St Mary’s.

If West Brom makes it to the championship game, they won’t care who they play, but Corberan might play Leeds, where he was a youth coach from 2017 to 2020. Though he hopes to lead the squad back to the top division in what is still his first full season at the club, the Baggies coach won’t be gazing too far ahead, with Southampton the only team on his mind.

After making it to the play-offs, he stated on the club’s official website, “I felt that this was the first target of the season—to finish in the play-off positions.” We are aware that we have been in fifth place for a number of weeks, but in football, you always have to assess the previous game, and luckily, we were able to move up to a spot that we most likely earned. We have been there for several weeks, but we are now moving on to our next objective.

“Every point we have achieved is the result of a great deal of work, sacrifice, and determination—all of which are important qualities you need to demonstrate on the football pitch,” he continued.

The second was performance, since we have to play well and as a team, our ability to manage the many attack and defense game circumstances depends on our comprehension of the game.

And belief was probably the most important factor because, in football, it can be crucial to believe and maintain competition right up until the very end of a game. You need to believe not only when you have the opportunity, but also when you lose it, not just when you concede two.

We will use today (Saturday) and possibly tomorrow to rest, but after that, we know we’ll prepare for the game by exploring every option and doing analysis to create the greatest possible strategy. Making the playoffs is not our goal. It’s the initial move toward a larger goal.
