Chelsea is considering a move for Mathys Tel of Bayern Munich that would send Christopher Nkunku in the opposite direction.
The 19-year-old sensation arrived in Germany in 2022 after being signed for a whopping £24 million at the age of 17. Just months after signing his contract, he became the club’s youngest-ever scorer in a DFB Cup match, demonstrating that he hasn’t let anyone down for such a young talent.
The 33-time Bundesliga champions, however, have reportedly expressed interest in Blues star Nkunku, who has mostly served as a benchwarmer or cup deputy under Enzo Maresca.
With personal conditions reportedly agreed upon and the prodigy utilised to potentially sweeten the sale, Tel, who previously rejected Real Madrid in favour of remaining in Munich, may now be a crucial component of a possible trade for Chelsea’s Frenchman.
Before moving to Germany, Tel was apparently a player of interest at the Bernabeu.According to AS, Tel turned down Los Blancos’ offers nevertheless, and after joining Bayern, he refused to accept their No. 9 shirt because he wanted to earn the accolade rather than simply receive it.
Though his employers are considering a move for Nkunku, who has a stellar record in the German top flight—47 goals and 43 assists in 119 appearances for RB Leipzig—he could never realise that. It’s possible that the 19-year-old is travelling to London as part of a trade.
According to reports in Germany, Nkunku and Bayern have verbally agreed, and BILD thinks a trade is a possible outcome because Chelsea is also interested in bringing Tel to Stamford Bridge and talks are still going on.
