Ibrox View: Rangers man finished at Ibrox after Philippe Clement axe v Ross County

Rangers had enjoyed a frustrating week in the lead-up to their defeat to Ross County having had their showdown with Dundee postponed once again.

That left Philippe Clement with plenty of time to reflect following the dramatic Old Firm draw with Celtic at Ibrox and it was clear the Belgian was unhappy with his side’s display as he made four changes to his starting XI.

While the likes of Mohammed Diomande and Tom Lawrence dropped to the bench, Scott Wright found himself axed from the matchday squad in its entirety, only a week after he started the Old Firm derby on the right wing.

Clement hadn’t mentioned the winger when discussing the Gers’ injuries in the lead-up to Sunday’s (14 April) win, so it has to be assumed that he was fit and available to feature from the start against Don Cowie’s side.

The 26-year-old has been a fairly regular feature at Ibrox since then, making 19 Premiership appearances and even scoring at Hampden Park in the Viaplay Cup semi-final against Hearts as the Gers won their first piece of silverware under Clement.

But it’s hard to see how he will force his way back into the Rangers manager’s plans between now and the end of the season if he hasn’t even been able to make the matchday squad for the Light Blues’ clash with Ross County.

The Scotsman did fail to impact proceedings against the Hoops before Abdallah Sima replaced him at halftime and it may just be that Clement saw enough of the 26-year-old against Brendan Rodgers’ side.
