If Rangers qualify for the Champions League, a transfer claim is made.

David Edgar feels that Rangers would be irresponsible if they did not sign any players in the event that they qualified for the Champions League. On August 8, the host of the Heart and Hand podcast took to X to respond to a fan who was concerned that the team was not adding new players the way they had under Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

Although the Dutchman succeeded in getting the Germans into the group stages, the board did not support him in the days that followed. “If we don’t, it’s absolute negligence,” Edgar wrote.

Rangers cannot repeat the transfer mistakes of the past

The Gers cannot afford to make the same mistakes they have in the past, especially with regard to their transfer policy.

The team advanced to the Champions League group stages under van Bronckhorst’s leadership, but the Dutchman’s final resignation was largely due to the board’s inadequate backing for the manager in the transfer market. Already, Philippe Clement has proven that he can extract more performance out of the existing team than most people anticipated.

But it would be irresponsible to deny the Belgian the tools he needs to bolster the team should Rangers make it back to the Champions League.

In addition to undermining Clement’s capacity to compete at the greatest level, failing to do so would convey to players and prospective recruits that the team has no real intention of competing at the highest level.

Even if the Ibrox team isn’t able to make it into the Champions League, they still need to grow from their previous mistakes and make sure Clement has the support he needs in the transfer market.
