Southampton have reportedly agreed to sign Portugal Under-21 midfielder Mateus Fernandes from Sporting Lisbon for a fee close to €20 million, according to journalist Duncan Castles.
Russell Martin has been busy in the transfer market, recently securing Lesley Ugochukwu on loan from Chelsea and Cameron Archer on a permanent move from Aston Villa. With the summer transfer window nearing its end, Southampton are finalizing the deal for Fernandes, agreeing to pay Sporting Lisbon €18 million.
Fernandes, who is 20 years old, gained regular playing time last season on loan at Estoril in the Portuguese top flight. Southampton are now looking to finalize the transfer, as they see Fernandes as a valuable addition to their midfield options for their Premier League campaign.
