In a heated statement, Rangers call out Dundee for “negligence and unprofessionalism” and demand that the SPFL take action.

In a strongly worded club statement, Rangers criticized Dundee for their “negligence and unprofessionalism” over the decision to postpone their rescheduled Premiership match for a second time.

Additionally, the Ibrox team has called for prompt action from the SPFL due to the absurd condition of the Dens Park field after referee Don Robertson inspected the ground a second time at 3:30 p.m. and declared it unfit for play.

The Light Blues contend that their pitch’s current state is an embarrassment to Scottish football, supporters, and broadcasters alike, and they have accused their Tayside rivals of breaking SPFL rules. Dundee has been forced to postpone games for the FIFTH time this season; the rescheduled date of the televised match is set for next Wednesday, April 17th at 8pm on Sky Sports.

“Rangers has written to the SPFL outlining its position following today’s further postponement of the Dundee Scottish Premiership fixture,” the club said in a caustic statement. The nation’s premier professional league continues to suffer as a result of Dundee Football Club’s carelessness and lack of professionalism, as seen by their continuous violations of SPFL regulations.

This evening’s game is scheduled to be shown by Sky Sports once more, following a week in which a match in the same competition saw record TV watching figures. It is a terribly embarrassing incident that was also largely preventable. Rangers will continue to present the SPFL with its strongest arguments, and the club anticipates that the SPFL will act proportionately and decisively in compliance with its regulations.

The team has offered the SPFL alternatives on several occasions, but they have not been implemented. It has once more offered a strategy for organizing and carrying out this rescheduled match and is awaiting an answer from the SPFL. The rescheduled game is now set for Wednesday, April 17 at 8:00 p.m. The club believes that Dundee and the SPFL have handled this situation incorrectly from the beginning.

We would like to express our sincere sympathies once more to our supporters, about 4,000 of whom were anticipating seeing the game tonight. The initial postponement last month caused Dundee FC much trouble and financial loss, thus it is completely inappropriate and insulting of them to have allowed this to happen again.

The Scot Foam Stadium pitch is currently the subject of a “ongoing disciplinary process,” according to the SPFL. According to SPFL Chief Operating Officer Calum Beattie, “The Match Referee has carried out two detailed pitch inspections today and it has now been decided that the pitch will not be playable this evening in light of the forecast for heavy rain later today in Dundee.”

Whilst this development is extremely disappointing, we have had contingency measures in place since last month and informed both clubs by email on March 21st of our intention, should tonight’s game fall victim to the weather, that we would rearrange the game for Dens Park on the evening of Wednesday, April 17th. In the last week we have explored other possible options with both clubs but none of them were deemed to be better than our original contingency plan. “This decision gives this vital fixture the very best chance of being played in front of both sets of supporters and also gives us a week to finalise further contingency planning in the event that the weather unexpectedly deteriorates in the interim. There is currently an ongoing disciplinary process regarding pitch issues at Dens Park and the latest developments will form part of those enquiries.”
